Bonefolders
Bonefolders
Arguably the most emblematic bookbinder’s tool, and for good reason. Most commonly used for manipulating flat materials such as paper, cloth, or leather, bone folders are useful to some degree in practically every book arts-related activity.
Colophon offers a select variety of shapes and lengths, and each shape can be further customized with hand files and sandpaper to suit your specific needs. Made with polished genuine bone, each folder is handmade and will vary slightly from one to the next.
Available shapes include
Classic – pointed on one end and rounded on the other, the Classic is a time-tested shape that’s good for just about everything. Available in two lengths.
Rounded – rounded on both ends, this shape is a folding, creasing, and burnishing workhorse. Available in two lengths.
Tapered – featuring a rounded end that gradually tapers into a fine point. While well suited for general work, the pointed end is particularly great for tight spaces such as interior box corners or shaping endcaps. Available in two lengths.
Mini – a smaller version of the Classic that’s great for smaller hands or smaller work.
